The iPhone 18 Pro Max will “exclusively feature a variable aperture,” The leaker known as “Ice Universe” claims in a Weibo post — as noted by MacRumors.

“Looks like even Apple can’t escape the reality that if you want the absolute best camera experience, you’ll have to put up with a phone that weighs like a brick,” he/she said.

A variable aperture in a smartphone camera physically changes the size of the lens opening. This optical hardware allows the device to control light intake and depth of field before software processing begins, offering distinct advantages over fixed-aperture lenses.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to arrive next month, followed shortly thereafter by then first foldable iPhone. A standard iPhone, iPhone 18e, and a second generation iPhone Air are predicted to arrive in the first half of 2027.
