In April Counterpoint Research said that the upcoming foldable iPhone could capture 46% of the global foldable smartphone market and drive market share of the category.
Now DigiTimes says that global foldable smartphone shipments are expected to grow 20% in 2026 compared to last year with the foldable iPhone — likely to be dubbed either the “iPhone Fold” or “iPhone Ultra” — one of the factors driving the growth.
Citing industry sources, the article said that worldwide global foldable smartphone shipments are expected to increase 20% this year compared to 2025. DigiTimes says the overall smartphone market is contending with tighter supply of upstream logic chips and higher memory prices, but the foldable segment is expected to keep expanding regardless. The report says that Samsung will still be the top seller of foldable smartphones.
The latest rumors predict that the iPhone Fold will arrive alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September. A non-Pro iPhone 18, an iPhone 18e, and a second generation iPhone Air are anticipated for the first half of 2027.
