Apple plans to release a smart home hub — that could be dubbed the “HomePad” either late this year or early next year, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman (a subscription is required to read the article).
Not surprisingly Siri AI is expected to be a core feature of the device — likely a combination of a HomePod with a 7-inch display — that, per Gurman, is designed to be placed in rooms throughout your house. It will purportedly have built-in facial recognition, FaceTime video call support, photo gallery support, a calendar, Apple Music support, HomeKit accessory management, and an intercom system.
The “HomePad” will use a new operating system based on tvOS though the interface will blend elements of that operating system with watchOS and iOS, according to Gurman. He says it will sport a grid of icons, widgets, and apps, along with customizable clock faces.
