Updates of the Apple TV Updates of the Apple TV set-top box and HomePod mini are “nearly ready to launch” with Apple planning to release them “this fall,” according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (a subscription is required to read the article).
Not surprisingly, he says both will be equipped with faster processors that support Siri AI. That’s expected to arrive alongside macOS 27, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 in September or October.
Gurman thinks the next Apple TV set-top box and HomePod mini will sport an Apple-designed Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chip. The chip will support Wi-Fi 6E, though Apple may not be able to match all of Broadcom’s chip capabilities with the first-generation in-house Wi-Fi chip.
Gurman also thinks that the Apple TV set-top box will arrive at a lower price: US$99. And Gurman adds that, unsurprisingly, there will likely be new color options for the HomePod mini.
Beyond a newer chipset, the next Apple TV 4K may come with a new Siri Remote. Gurman said it could be merely be an internal refresh or an all-new design.
There is, he’s told, a possibility the remote will be refreshed in some form, but the box itself will look similar to the current version, which is an incarnation of the 2010 industrial design. (And even the remote update could just be a minor change inside the accessory, rather than something noticeable.)
