Apple may skip high-end M6 processors and go straight to M7 chips

Apple may skip high-end M6 processors and go straight to M7 chips.

Apple may release an M6 chip for entry-level Macs this year, but it’s ditched plans for higher-end M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, according to a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman (a subscription is required to read the article).

Instead, Apple’s next Pro and Max chips will be part of its M7 chip lineup. Gurman says the first M7 chips will debut in 2027.

According to his predictions, we’ll see the M6 in late 2026, the M7 in the first half of 2027, and both the M7 Pro and M7 Max at the end of 2027.

Gurman adds that an M5 Ultra chip might also debut this year. He also says that, despite price increases, Apple is still planning to release a new Mac Studio as soon as this year,
