Scribble in iPadOS 26 allows you to use the Apple Pencil to write directly into any text field, converting handwriting into text, or to write within Notes/Freeform.
It’s enabled by default when an Apple Pencil is paired. Key features include editing gestures (scratch to delete, circle to select) and a handy floating toolbar.
Getting Started with Scribble
- Ensure it’s enabled: Go to Settings > Apple Pencil and confirm Scribble is toggled on.
- Write to type: Tap any text field (search bar, email, URL) with your Apple Pencil and start writing. The iPad will convert it to typed text.
- Using the Toolbar: A small toolbar will appear, offering tools like Undo or Show Keyboard to quickly switch to typing.
Advanced Scribble Gestures & Tips
- Delete Text: Scratch out a word or sentence to delete it.
- Select Text: Circle or draw a line through text to select it.
- Join/Separate Letters: Draw a vertical line between characters to join or separate them.
