How to Access Special Keyboard Characters in macOS Tahoe

° Character Viewer (Emoji & Symbols): Press Control-Command-Spacebar to open a palette for searching and inserting symbols, arrows, and currency.

° Globe/Fn Key: On newer MacBooks, pressing the Fn or Globe key once can open the Character Viewer.

° Accent Menu: Hold down a letter key (e.g., a) to see variations with accents, then select the number corresponding to the character.

° Option Key Shortcuts: Hold the Option key and press another key to generate special characters (e.g., Option + 2 = ™, Option + p = π).

° Keyboard Viewer: Select “Show Keyboard Viewer” from the Input menu in the menu bar (enable in Settings > Keyboard) to see a visual map of keys, including those accessed via Option or Shift-Option.

Customization

° Input Menu: Go to System Settings > Keyboard > Input Sources and enable “Show Input menu in menu bar” for quick access.

° Character Viewer Settings: The Character Viewer can be switched to a compact or detailed view by clicking the icon in the top right corner.
