Apple’s Mac Pro desktop computer is currently “on the back burner” and may never be updated, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman says in his latest “Power On” newsletter.
He adds that the company has pretty much written off the highest end pro and the the Mac Studio is the future of Apple’s pro desktop line. Apple is working on a high-end M5 Ultra chip, but Gurman said the company is focused on bring that processor to a new Mac Studio. Still, he said that there’s still a long shot we might see a Mac Pro with an M5 Ultra processor eventually.
The Mac Pro was last updated in 2023 with the M2 Ultra chip. For now it looks like a Mac Studio may be the only Mac updated with the M5 Ultra processors. MacBook Pros with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors are anticipated in early 2026.
