It’s not as intuitive as with macOS, but you can open multiple windows of the same app in iPadOS.
For me this comes in handy when I want multiple Pages documents open so I can cut and paste between them. On my Mac with Pages launched, I can just open one app, then open another one.
With iPadOS 26, if you want to create a new window of an app that’s already running, swipe up to show the Dock and press/hold the app’s icon. You’ll see a list of recently opened documents (in Pages, at least). Or you can click New Window to open another instance of this app.
If you want to view both in Split View, tap the three lines on top of your app and press Split View. Then you can choose an app, and it will fill up the other side of your screen.
