AirPods Pro 3 may get a ‘more significant hardware upgrade next year

Apple has released new firmware for the AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3.

Apple is expected to launch AirPods Pro 3 in the second half of 2025, while a more significant hardware upgrade with the IR camera-equipped model is anticipated in 2026, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

“AirPods may not see significant updates until 2026 (aligning with my earlier prediction that IR camera-equipped AirPods would enter mass production in 2026),” he says in an X post. “A lighter version of the AirPods Max is expected to enter mass production in 2027.”

Some pundits say the AirPods Pro 3 won’t arrive until later this year. However, the Sellers Research Group (that’s me) thinks they’ll be announced at Tuesday’s Apple event dubbed “Awe Dropping” on Tuesday, September 9 at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.
