Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is sticking with his opinion that next year’s foldable iPhone (the “iPhone Fold”) will feature Touch ID integrated into the side button rather than an under-display fingerprint sensor.

“There are now market rumors that it will adopt an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, but I think that’s unlikely,”he says in an X post. “It’s expected that Luxshare ICT will supply the side-button Touch ID module for the foldable iPhone.”

Apple is expected to debut the foldable iPhone in September 2026 as part of the iPhone 18 line-up, according to JP Morgan. You can find a round-up of rumors about the “iPhone Fold” here.
