Apple is preparing “to shake up the notebook market with an all-new ultra-low-cost MacBook,” reports DigiTimes (a subscription is required to read the article).
Quoting unnamed supply chain sources, the article says components are expected to enter mass production by the end of the third quarter of 2025 and might launch by this year. DigiTimes claims the entry-level laptop will have a 12.9-inch display and have a starting price between US$599-$699.
This report mostly lines up with a June 30 X post by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said Apple plans to release a MacBook powered by an A18 Pro processor. Kuo claimed such a laptop will enter mass production ini the fourth quarter of 2025 or early 2026. He said the Mac laptop will sport a 13-inch display with potential casing colors include silver, blue, pink, and yellow.
“Apple aims to return total MacBook shipments to the COVID-19 peak of around 25 million units in 2026 (vs. an estimated 20 million units in 2025),” Kuo said. “The more-affordable MacBook is projected to account for 5–7 million units for 2026.”
