In a research note to clients — as noted by MacRumors — investment firm GF Securities’ lead analyst Jeff Pu says he don’t think the rumored foldable iPad likely won’t arrive in 2027, as previous reports claim.
He offers no reason for his prediction. However, Pu’s report lines up Apple with a July 2 article from DigiTimes (a subscription is required to read the article). DigiTimes says that the reason for the pause in production of an “iPad Fold” includes manufacturing difficulties and increased production costs. This doesn’t mean that work on an “iPad Fold” has ended. It’s just been put on hold for now.
The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) disagrees with both reports. I think we’ll see a foldable iPad in mid-to-late 2027.
As for an “iPad Fold,” it will feature an under-display Face ID claims Digital Chat Station. The rumor says that one of Apple’s engineering prototypes features an 18.8-inch foldable screen with a “metal superstructure lens” that integrates the receiver and transmitter components of Face ID for under-display facial recognition.
