Messages in iOS and iPadOS is one of the tools I use every day. However, sometimes it’s nice to silence/hide the app’s alerts. Here’s how to do this in iOS 16 and iPadOS 16:
- Open the Messages app: Locate and open the Messages app on your iPhone.
- Find the conversation: Locate the conversation (individual or group) you want to mute.
- Swipe left: Swipe left on the conversation in the list of messages.
- Tap the bell icon: Tap the bell icon with a line through it (the mute icon) that appears on the right side of the conversation.
- Alternative method: If swiping doesn’t work, tap on the conversation, then tap the contact’s name or group icon at the top of the screen. Toggle the Hide Alerts switch to the on position.
- Confirmation: You’ll see a bell icon with a line through it next to the conversation in the main Messages list, indicating that Hide Alerts is enabled.
