Report: 41% of Americans are reducing social media use in 2025

Social media isn’t one-size-fits-all anymore—and Americans are rethinking how (and how often) they use it.

A new report from PartnerCentric reveals key shifts in American’s platform preferences and behaviors among the generations in 2025. From the report:

  • Forty-one percent are reducing social media use in 2025 with 1-in-4 using screentime blockers
  • The favorite social media platforms are Facebook and  TikTok
  • Americans shop the most via Facebook Marketplace with the average monthly spend on Facebook Marketplace topping $133.

The survey also found many Americans are taking to social media before Google when it comes to searching for information. 1-in-10 Millennials and Gen Zers prefer Reddit over Google for product reviews while 1 in 10 Baby Boomers use YouTube over Google.

Additionally, 28% of Gen Zers search TikTok for recipes before looking to Google. 37% of X (Twitter) users primarily use the platform for news, as well.
