The Omdia research group reports higher Mac sales than IDC

The Omdia research group reports higher Mac sales than IDC.

Yesterday the IDC research group reported that Mac sales fell in the third quarter of 2026, but Apple actually gained global PC market share.

Now the latest research from Omdia shows that worldwide shipments of desktops, notebooks, and workstations declined sharply in 3Q26, falling 21.2% year-on-year to 58.1 million units. Desktop shipments (including desktop workstations) fell 23.5% to 11.7 million units, while notebook shipments (including mobile workstations) declined 20.6% to 46.4 million units.

Omdia says supply chain challenges have intensified in recent months. Alongside continued increases in memory and storage prices, shortages of processors, graphics cards, and numerous IC components have made supply chain and inventory management more difficult for PC vendors. Omdia forecasts the PC market to decline 24% year-over-year in quarter four of 2026 with a further 7% decline expected for 2027.

According to IDC, Apple sold 5.9 million Macs during the third quarter of 2026 for 9.5% global PC market share. That compares to sales of 6.7 million Macs and 8.5% market share in the third quarter of 2025.

According to Omdia, Apple sold 6.7 million Macs during the third quarter of 2026 for 11.7% global PC market share. That compares to sales of 7.5 million Macs and 10.4% market share in the third quarter of 2025.
