Look for new HomePod minis, refreshed Apple TV set-top box ‘toward the end of the year’

Apple plans to launch a new HomePod mini and Apple TV set-top models "toward the end of the year,” Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says.

Apple plans to launch a new HomePod mini and Apple TV set-top models “toward the end of the year,” Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says in his latest “Power On” newsletter.

The updated gadgets will provably arrive between September and November. Gurman thinks the next Apple TV set-top box and HomePod mini will sport an Apple-designed Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chip. He also says that the processor, referred to as “Proxima” internally at Apple, will appear in the iPhone 17 line-up.

The chip will support Wi-Fi 6E, though Apple may not be able to match all of Broadcom’s chip capabilities with the first-generation in-house Wi-Fi chip. Gurman says that adopting a custom-designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip will allow Apple’s upcoming smart home devices to work better together and perhaps “synchronize data more quickly.”

He thinks that the Apple TV set-top box high arrive at a lower price: US$99. And Gurman adds that, unsurprisingly, there will likely be new color options for the HomePod mini.
