Twelve South’s awesome new PlugBug is the first power supply with Find My support

PlugBug with Find My

Since most Apple devices have a limited number of ports, I’ve always found Twelve South’s PlugBug accessory very handy. And the newest version is better than ever.

Why? Twelve South has announced a new PlugBug with Find My support. As best as I can tell, it’s the world’s first power supply that supports Apple’s Find My feature.

If your PlugBug charger is misplaced or missing, you can launch a Find My app on your iPhone or MacBook to track it down. And it’s easy to misplace it, as it boasts a GaN-powered, ultra slim design for travel.

Its slim frame and folding prongs allow it to fit in places brick-style chargers won’t, such as the outlet next to a night stand or a hotel bedside stand. And its white profile with red swoosh makes it easy to spot if you’re using it at a coffee shop or airport.

You can choose from a 50W charger that powers up two devices simultaneously, or the 120W option that can power up four gadgets.

The power for the Find My portion of PlugBug is completely separate and isolated from the AC charger. To power Find My, the PlugBug uses the same replaceable button battery as the Apple AirTag. The folks at Twelve South say it should hold enough juice for about a year. You can also monitor battery status directly in the Find My app.

Another nice touch: because of dynamic Power Delivery, you can plug your device into any port to get the available charging wattage. When multiple devices are plugged in, PlugBug will deliver the required wattage to each device. This chart shows how this works:

The PlugBug 50W costs US$69.99; the 120W model is $119.99. It’s expected to ship this week, but Apple World Today received an advance review unit.
