You can compress files on your iPad to save storage space. Let’s look at how to do this.
How to Compress a Single Folder or File
- Open the Files app and navigate to the location of your folder (such as On My iPad or iCloud Drive).
- Touch and hold (long-press) the folder or file you want to compress.
- Tap Compress from the menu that appears.
- A new .zip file with the same name will appear in that same folder.
How to Compress Multiple Folders or Files
- Open the Files app and go to the folder containing the items you want to bundle.
- Tap the More button (three dots) in the top-right corner, then tap Select (or just tap Select directly if visible).
- Tap each file or folder you want to include.
- Tap the More button (three dots) in the bottom-right corner and select Compress.
- The iPad will bundle them into a single archive file named Archive.zip.
How to Rename or Unzip the Archive
- Rename: Touch and hold the ZIP file, then tap Rename to give it a custom name.
- Unzip: Tap the .zip file, and the iPad will automatically extract its contents into a new folder right next to it.
