Weirdly, you can use the same Apple ID on two (or more!) iPhones. Let’s look at how to do this.
How It Works
- Shared Purchases: You can share app purchases, subscriptions, and media without buying them twice.
- Data Syncing: By default, iCloud will sync information like contacts, notes, calendars, and photos across both devices.
- Messages and Calls: If you do not change settings, text messages and phone calls can ring on both phones.
Potential Issues
- Privacy Loss: Personal photos, text messages, and browsing history may show up on both devices.
- Mixed Logs: Call history and text threads can get jumbled if two different people use the phones.
How to Manage Settings Safely
If you own both devices (such as a personal phone and a backup phone), you can keep the same Apple ID. Just adjust these settings on each phone:
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap iCloud and choose Show All to turn off syncing for specific apps you do not want to share (like Photos or Notes).
- Go to Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime to make sure each phone uses its own unique phone number or email address for calls and texts
