At its September 9 “Surprise and Shine” event, Apple introduced the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, the iPhone Duo, the Apple Watch Series 12, the Apple Watch Ultra 4, and the AirPods 5.
However, Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) says “Apple has returned to its confusing, scattered model lineup, confounding analysts, and presumably iPhone shoppers.”
“They just want a straightforward set of choices, and thoughtful analysis about prices and features,” says the research group. “ Apple now sells the iPhone Duo, the new 18 Pro and Pro Max, the current 17 (base model), the six-month-old iPhone 17e, last year’s iPhone Air, and the two-year old iPhone 16. And all of the carry-over phones saw a $100 price increase.
CIRP has some questions about this set of choices:
- Why does Apple continue to sell iPhone Air?
- Why delay feature upgrades in the base iPhone 17?
- Why sell the two-year old iPhone 16 at all?
