Apple is set to launch Apple Pay in India later Tuesday with Axis Bank as its initial banking partner, reports TechCrunch.
The initial rollout will be limited, the article says, quoting unnamed “people familiar with the matter.” Apple Pay will initially support eligible Axis Bank cards on Visa and Mastercard, but not India’s homegrown RuPay network. Acceptance will also be restricted to merchants and payment terminals that have been enabled for the service, according to TechCrunch.
Axis Bank is India’s third-largest private sector bank, offering a suite of personal, corporate, and digital banking services. It has over 5,000 domestic branches and 15,000+ ATMs/cash recyclers across India, alongside key international offices.
