We might be in the middle of the SaaSpocalypse, but workers are still using many tools daily to get work done, and AI isn’t reducing much.

A new knowledge worker survey by tech recruiter Howdy.com found that 28% of workers say AI contributes to their sense of tool sprawl:

  • Overall 38% suffer from tool sprawl; 44% among those forced to use AI at work
  • Workers use an average of 7 tools regularly; 2 AI platforms
  • 27% use 4+ project management tools, and 17% say they spend more time tracking work than doing it
  • 41% say their company pays for more tools than is necessary

Howdy also analyzed Google search volume to determine most hated tools and platforms by looking for spikes in searches like “[platform] sucks:” with 290 monthly rage-Googles, Workday is most reviled in the nation. Other hated platforms include Microsoft Teams, Salesforce, and Jira.
