The speakers on the Apple Studio Display are surprising good. However, they could be even better.
Apple is rumored to be working on a new Studio Display for release in early 2026. What I really want is a Studio Display Pro with a 27-inch (or bigger) ProMotion display. ProMotion is the Apple’s name for the adaptive, high refresh rate, 120Hz display first available on the iPad Pro.
While a standard refresh rate will update a display 60 times a second (60Hz), the ProMotion’s adaptive 120Hz screen works at twice this speed. This results in smoother scrolling, improved responsiveness and better gaming performance.
A Studio Display Pro would likely utilize mini-LED technology with the most notable design change is to switch the material of the mini-LED backplane from the PCB found in current Apple products to glass. The benefits of adopting a glass backplane include a thinner panel thickness, a narrower bezel, an extended product lifespan, etc.
But back to its speakers. The current Studio Display features a high-fidelity six-speaker system with four force-canceling woofers for bold bass and two high-performance tweeters. The system supports Spatial Audio for immersive, theater-like sound and also includes studio-quality microphones and the “Hey Siri” voice assistant.
However, I’d love to speakers such as those in the Dell S3225QC (pictured). As described by Tom’s Hardware, the 32-inch OLED monitor brings a real soundbar with spatial audio to the table. It packs five speakers with 25 watts of amplification and a user position sensor that focuses sound on the listener and creates a true sense of space and immersion.
