Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 “Air” will foreshadow a move to slimmer models without charging ports. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says in his latest “Power On” newsletter.

He says Apple’s slimmer smartphone due this fall is more than just an attempt to juice sales with something distinct from the rest of the lineup. It’s really a new beginning for the iPhone.

“Since 2020, Apple has launched four main iPhones each year: a pair of entry-level models and two high-end versions,” Gurman writes.

He says the iPhone Air features will include:

° A 6.6-inch display.

° It will have a depth reduction of about 2 millimeters.

° It will switch to a single 48-megapixel camera on the back, similar to the iPhone 16e.

° It will use the C1 modem, Apple’s in-house design that will save power but lack mmWave 5G support.

This info from Gurman is from the free edition of “Power On”. If you like it, consider subscribing to Bloomberg.com—you’ll receive the newsletter earlier and get exclusive access to a Q&A section.
