The Photos app in iPadOS receives its biggest update ever, offering new tools that make it easier to find what you’re looking for.
A simplified and customizable app layout takes advantage of the larger display on iPad and helps folks browse by themes without having to organize content into albums. According to Appoe, Photos uses on-device machine learning to automatically organize a library by helpful topics, like people and pets, recent days, trips, and even documents and receipts.
To use the redesigned Photos app in iPadOS 18, open the app, where you’ll see a single scrolling interface displaying your photos organized by topics like “Recent Days,” “Trips,” “People,” and “Collections.” You can avigate through these sections by scrolling, and to customize the layout, scroll to the bottom and select “Customize & Reorder” to add or remove sections as needed. You can also pin specific collections for quick access.
All your photos are displayed in a single continuous scroll, with different sections like “Recent Days” and “People” appearing as you scroll down. Photos are automatically grouped by themes like trips, people, pets, and events.
You can pin important albums or collections to the top for quick access. You can scroll to the bottom of the app to access “Customize & Reorder” where you can choose which sections appear and rearrange their order.
If you want to find a specific photo, use the search bar at the top to search for photos by people, places, or keywords. You can navigate by date by pinching to zoom out on the timeline to navigate by month and year.
