If you were hoping for an update of the Apple TV set-top or a revamped HomePod, you’ll be out of luck. However, new models of both will launch in 2025, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (a subscription is required to read his report).
He says a 2025 Apple TV set-top box and HomePod mini will sport an Apple-designed Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chip. Gurman also says that the processor, referred to as “Proxima” internally at Apple, will appear in the iPhone 17 line-up.
It will support Wi-Fi 6E, though Apple may not be able to match all of Broadcom’s chip capabilities with the first-generation in-house Wi-Fi chip. Gurman says that adopting a custom-designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip will allow Apple’s upcoming smart home devices to work better together and perhaps “synchronize data more quickly.”
