It’s baaaccccck! The original Mac allowed you to erase disks right on the Desktop. And you can once more thanks to macOS Sequoia.
But first my common reminder: don’t confuse the Finder with the Desktop. The Finder is the first thing that you see when your Mac finishes starting up. It opens automatically and stays open as you use other apps. It includes the Finder menu bar at the top of the screen and the Desktop below that. The Desktop is the space where you see file, folder, and application windows.
With that said, let’s look at how to use the Erase Disk command in macOS Sequoia:
° Select any mounted volume in the Finder.
° Control-click on it.
° A popup menu appears.
° Select Erase Disk.
° You’ll be given these formatting options: volume name, volume format, and whether or not to make the new volume’s filesystem case-sensitive.
° Click Erase. You’ll be asked if you’re sure you want to do this.
° IF you’re sure (and be sure you’re sure) click Erase again in the alert.
The volume will be erased.
