Analyst Jeff Pu says in a blog post — as noted by MacRumors — Apple’s next-generation Pro Display XDR will feature the same quantum-dot display technology adopted by the latest MacBook Pro models.
In a November 15 X post display Young reported that Apple used a quantum dot film instead of a red KSF phosphor film in the laptop. Quantum dot technology has been used for high-end displays for several years, with companies like Samsung and Sony manufacturing “QLED” displays and TV sets.
Apple released the Pro Display XDR in 2019, alongside an updated Mac Pro. The US$5,999 (and up) external monitor has not received any hardware upgrades since then.
Personally, I’m less interested in a Pro Display XDR 2 (since I can’t afford it) than a “Studio Display Pro.” I want a follow-up to the 27-inch Studio Display with ProMotion support. The current model lacks support for ProMotion, which isApple’s name for the adaptive, high refresh rate, 120Hz display first available on the iPad Pro.
