Next Mac mini will come with either an M2 or M2 Pro processor

An updated Mac mini with M1 Pro or M1 Max processors were expected at Tuesday’s “Peek Performance” event, but didn’t arrive. However, 9to5Mac reports that one is still coming, just not what has been anticipated.

The next gen Mac mini will instead reportedly come in M2 or M2 Pro options. From 9to5Mac: Internally known as “Staten,” M2 is based on the current A15 chip, while M1 is based on the A14 Bionic. Just like M1, M2 will feature an eight-core CPU (four performance cores and four efficiency cores), but this time with a more powerful 10-core GPU. The new performance cores are codenamed “Avalanche,” and efficiency cores are known as “Blizzard.” M2 Mac mini development is nearing completion, and its release date is expected to be announced sometime later this year.
