Apple’s global Mac sales up 19.7% year-over-year in quarter two

Worldwide personal computer (PC) shipments totaled 71.6 million units in the second quarter of 2021, according to Gartner. That’s an increase of 4.6% from the second quarter of 2020, notes the research group. And the report is great news for the Mac.

According to Gartner, Apple’s worldwide computer shipments in the second quarter of 2021 were approximately 6.1 million. That’s up 19.7% year-over-year.

The Mac now has 8.5% of the global computer market, per Gartner. (The research group doesn’t include tablets such as iPads in its tally). Ahead of Apple in global PC market share are Lenovo (24.1%), HP (20%), and Dell (17.1%).

When it comes to U.S. sales, Gartner says Apple’s computer shipments in quarter two of 2021 were 16.1%. That’s up 4.4% year-over-year and puts the company in second place among U.S. PC makers. Ahead of Apple in the U.S. are HP (28.4% market share) and Dell (27.7%).
