Satechi’s new US$49.95 USB-C Watch AirPods Charger is a useful accessory when you’re on the road with a Mac laptop or iPad and an Apple Watch and/or AirPods or AirPods Pro.
The charger — available exclusively at Apple — allows you to power two devices at once. Well, at least theoretically. You’ll have to have your smartwatch magnetically attached upside down, which means it may or may not detach if jostled.
To use, just plug the charger/dock into an open USB-C port on a Mac or iPad and you can juice up your Apple Watch or AirPods/AirPods Pro (with no extra cables!) thanks to its dual-sided design.
The Satechi USB-C Watch AirPods Charger draws power from the Mac or iPad’s battery to charge those accessories. The small size of the charger (0.55 x 1.73 x 2.28) makes it easy to stow away when you’re on-the-road. And its sleek aluminum design complements Apple devices — although it’s only available in one color (gray).
One downside: depending on which Mac laptop you have, even though Satechi’s charger is relatively svelte, it can take up two USB-C ports. For example, the MacBook Air only has two ports and they’re right next to each other. Using the Satechi peripheral in one port blocks the adjacent port.
Also, you have to be careful when you’re using the Satechi USB-C Watch AirPods Charger because it could accidentally get snapped off. And that wouldn’t be good for the charger or your Mac/iPad. Fortunately, it can be plugged into a wall outlet, though you’ll have to use an adapter.
