Apple, Skydance Animation close multiyear partnership deal

Apple and David Ellison’s Skydance Animation have closed a multiyear partnership first reported to be in talks in December, and today, the studios have given a first look at the two animated films that will premiere on Apple TV+, “Luck” and “Spellbound,” reports The Wrap.

Both “Luck” and “Spellbound” were set for release in 2022. The former is directed by Peggy Holmes, and follows the unluckiest girl in the world. When she stumbles upon the never-before-seen world of good and bad luck, she must join together with magical creatures to uncover a force more powerful than even luck itself. It was dated for Feb. 18.

“Spellbound” is a musical fantasy set in a world of magic where a young girl sets out to break the spell that has split her kingdom in two, which was slated for November 2021.

Lasseter is an American animator, film director, screenwriter, producer, voice actor and former chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar and Disneytoon Studios. Skydance Media specializes in film, animation, TV and video games. Skydance Animation is its animation department that Lasseter heads.Apple has also ordered two seasons of an animated series from Skydance Animation, “The Search for WondLa.” Several other feature films and TV series will be announced over the term of the partnership, per The Wrap.
