No Limits: Nebo 2.7 Adds Freeform Page

Taking notes on an iPad is something that is different for each person,  since everyone has different methods of capturing ideas. Nebo, the top note-taking app for iPad, has just been updated to version 2.7 and brings a new freeform page and section that lets users write and draw freely. It’s the most innovative update ever to MyScript’s flagship app.

You may be unfamiliar with Nebo, so here’s a video from an earlier version of the app showing how it optimizes the use of your pen and keyboard on an iPad to power up your note-taking:

That video gives you an idea of the basic concept of Nebo. When we took a look at the previous update — version 2.6 — the app had added some compelling functions that made it even more useful. Those functions included multi-level bulleted or numbered lists, adjustable indented text blocks, and improved block rendering. Now let’s look at the new features in version 2.7 that have been added that make it an even more flexible note-taking tool.

The Freeform Page

Previous versions of Nebo used what was called the draft section for capturing handwritten text or sketches. While this has always been a powerful way of creating content, it was also somewhat limiting. Nebo 2.7 adds a freeform page to the existing draft section, which means that you can now write or draw anywhere on the page with no restrictions.

Think of the freeform page as an endless canvas for your thoughts and ideas. You can pan around the page, zoom in and out, and keep taking notes on what is essentially an infinite whiteboard. The freeform page expands to fit your content, so you never run out of space. Within a standard Nebo page, you can add a freeform section.

The following demo video shows how the freeform page works:

Copy and Reuse Freeform Content

The freeform content you create with Nebo 2.7 is now usable in many more ways. Any freeform content can be copied and pasted not only into other pages and sections within Nebo, but also into other apps with the inexpensive Nebo Pro in-app purchase.

In each case, the content you select for copying can be copied as a sketch, as convertible text, as math, or as a diagram.

Don’t Wait: Try Nebo for Free

The best thing about Nebo is that anyone with an iPad can try the app for free. The free version provides a taste of what Nebo offers for note-taking. You can create a limited number of notebooks, but each notebook can have an unlimited number of pages. With the free version, you can copy and paste text into your Nebo notes from external sources, and do a full page plain text export. For peace of mind, the free version backs up and can restore your full Nebo library, and of course the pen and keyboard input capabilities are always enabled.

The inexpensive Nebo Pro update unlocks features that make it what we call the best note-taking app for iPad. You can organize your pages in notebooks and collection, moving notes from one notebook or collection to another to capture your thoughts, your way.

With the Pro version, it’s easy to search your handwritten ink and text throughout all notes in your library, including annotations to diagrams. If you use technical terms or names a lot in your notes, you can add those to a custom word list in the built-in dictionary to improve the already impressive recognition,

As a Nebo Pro user, you’ll also be able to export pages in Word, text, PDF or HTML formats. Share your notes on Nebo.app to a limited group of contacts with the Publish feature, or open viewing to anyone if you wish. Finally, Nebo Pro adds the ability to sync your notes with iCloud, Google Drive or Dropbox.

Nebo is also available on pen-enabled devices running Windows, Android, and Google Chrome. Pick up your free copy on the App Store today
