Here’s how to type special symbols in macOS High Sierra

macOS High Sierra includes features that allow you to find and type special characters like emoji and currency symbols.

To do this, click on the Apple menu in the menu bar, then navigate to System Preferences and click Keyboard. Check the “Show keyboard and emoji viewers in menu bar.” The Keyboard and Character Viewers are easily accessed from the menu bar when enabled.

(This how-to is based on my experiences and info on Apple’s support pages — where the images sometimes come from.)
