Apple Daily Report for March 2, 2017

The AWT News Update is on hiatus while my compadre, Steve, takes a trip. In its place, I’ll offer a text-only (no podcast) summary of breaking stories with a tip o’ my hat to my former website, Apple Daily Report.

Apple has sued Qualcomm in a U.K. court, adding to lawsuits across the globe in a sprawling battle over patents and licensing fees between the iPhone developer and the largest designer of mobile phone chips.

Bare Bones, the maker of the  text editors BBEdit and TextWrangler, is planning to retire the free TextWrangler and make BBEdit free for basic features.

Apple has added the second-generation Apple TV to its list of “vintage” and “obsolete” products, rendering it ineligible for repairs in most parts of the world.

Apple has debuted an ad for its Home app on the Home app webpage. The ad shows what users can with the HomeKit ecosystem. The ad is not yet on Apple’s YouTube page, and is only available on Apple’s website.

Apple and 52 other companies have signed a Supreme Court brief in support of 17-year-old Gavin Grimm, a transgender man who’s fighting with his local school district for the right to use the bathroom of his corresponding gender identity, according to The New York Times.
