YouTube star Mark Robert reportedly working with Apple on VR, auto projects

Let the Apple Car rumors recommence. Mark Rober, who is best known for his YouTube videos of science stunts, has been “quietly working as an engineer for Apple’s secretive special projects group,” according to Variety. His work includes contributions to the company’s virtual reality projects, with a focus on using VR as on-board entertainment for self-driving cars, the article adds.

Rober, who has close to 3.4 million YouTube followers and has been an occasional guest on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon,” changed jobs in the summer of 2015, according to his Linkedin profile. The profile currently states that he has been working as a product design engineer at an unnamed company ever since. Apparently, that company is Apple.

Rober’s most popular invention is Digital Dudz, a range of Halloween costumes that integrate mobile apps with clothing. As an engineer, Rober spent seven years working on the Curiosity rover (now on Mars) at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

He founded his company called Digital Dudz on his nights and weekends while working at NASA and sold it to the guys who make Morphsuits in the UK.  On his LinkedIn profile, Rober says he was recently “presented with an opportunity to return to my Engineering roots to come do some ideation type of work for a tech company near San Francisco.”
