WALTR gets an update, adds subtitle support and more file formats

Readers who have been with Apple World Today since the beginning will remember WALTR (US$29.95), as the Mac app’s developer — Softorino — was one of our sponsors. All of us on the AWT team are huge fans of WALTR, which can take just about any video file format, convert it quickly, and then transfer it for viewing on your iPad or iPhone.

WALTR got an update to version 1.5 today, and it’s a doozy. The design of the app has been retouched for a new fresh look, but still retains the drag-and-drop ease of use it’s always had. You  never need to worry about whether or not your iPhone or iPad will support a file type; just drag it to the app on your Mac and WALTR takes care of the details, making sure that the video file is converted to a format that is playable on iOS.

New file formats include:
    •    Video:  FLV, M2TS, TS(experimental), DV, MPG, MPEG, MPE, MPEG(old types), WEBM
    •    Audio:  M4B, AIFF, WAV, OGG, OGA, WV, TTA, DFF;
    •    Subtitles: .SRT, .ASS

Those formats are in addition to existing formats including MP3, MP4, AVI, CUE, WMA, M4R, AAC, M4V, M4A, FLAC, ALAC, and MKV.

The WALTR team says that future updates are planned to add Wi-Fi support (currently only USB is supported), automatic metadata, and pictures support. You can try the app for 14 days for free with no restrictions.
