Try iWork apps for free via iCloud beta

Apple has made its iWork suite of apps — Numbers, Pages and Keynote — free for everyone to try via iCloud Beta. It’s restricted to the website for now, but anyone can create an Apple ID, and try out the browser-based apps with 1 GB of storage space to boot.

Our take on the news

There’s certainly nothing wrong with making it easy for potential customers to try your products. But note that this extends beyond iWork. Many people will be creating an Apple ID, experiencing iCloud (in a limited capacity, mind you) and just a touch of the Apple ecosystem for the first time. I suspect at least a few will want to see what else iCloud can offer.
