Truecaller Launches iPhone compatible Assistant to Filter Out Fraud and Scam Calls

The age of caller ID hasn’t entirely lived up to its promise, because it’s still not clear whether a call is truly important. Some 86% of Americans report they only answer calls if they can identify the person or business calling.

Truecaller, a global communications platform, has launched Truecaller Assistant, an iPhone and Android compatible system that leverages machine learning, speech-to-text, and natural language processing technologies to create a call-screening solution.

Truecaller Assistant is a customizable, interactive, digital receptionist that empowers users to answer important calls and avoid unwanted ones. Alan Mamedi, co-founder and CEO at Truecaller, says it responds within a second and understands caller requests with about 90% accuracy.

You can see a live transcription of what the caller is saying, so you know who they are and why they’re calling. Then you can decide if you want to take over the call, mark it as spam, or ask the caller for more information with the tap of a button.

Truecaller Assistant is available on a free, 14-day trial, after which subscribers can add Assistant as part of Truecaller Premium, which costs US$9.99 annually or $4.99 per month. The service will be launched in the U.S. and in English, with other markets and languages soon to follow.
