Toshiba signs a deal to sell its memory chip unit

Toshiba has signed a $17.7 billion deal to sell its memory chip unit to a consortium led by Bain Capital. Apple is among the companies included in the group.

The sale still faces legal challenges from partner Western Digital, as well as hurdles for antitrust clearance. Apple is interested as the move would allow it to lock in memory technology for its iPhone and other products.
