The BookBook Vol 2 is a great case for most users of 2018 iPad Pros

Twelve South’s newest edition of the BookBook (Vol 2) has been updated for the 2018 iPad Pro. I’ve been using the case with a 12.9-inch iPad Pro (there’s also a version for the 11-inch tablet), and it’s as durable and eye-popping as you’d expect from Twelve South.

Vol. 2 offers all the protection of the previous BookBook, but sports a new built-in shell to securely hold your iPad Pro, while showcasing the Liquid Retina edge-to-edge display. And — thank you, Twelve South — it includes added storage space for your Apple Pencil so you can keep track of it while charging on-the-go.

The quality is obvious as soon as you touch the case. The hard leather front and back assure you that your precious Apple tablet will be in good hands while you’re on the go. Since I’m prone to dropping things, the reinforced corners give me a sense of security. While there is a slight bulk to the Twelve South case, it’s minimal and only due to the reinforced corners and spine for protection. I find the extra weight well worth the tradeoff.

Your iPad Pro is securely held in place with a hinged shell that provides full access for drawing and smart gestures. Lift the shell up into display mode to share a Keynote show, video or photos. While in display mode, you can pair a compact keyboard with the tablet or use it as a second screen next to MacBook.

Capturing images and 4K video is easy thanks to a new back cover camera window. Additionally, an interior pocket now holds documents or a compact Bluetooth keyboard for a convenient desktop experience while traveling. The downside to the new BookBook, for me at least: you can’t use it with Apple’s Smart Folio.

One of the best features of the case is the quality zipper that completely zips around the tablet. This not only keeps the iPad Pro from falling out of the case, but also protects all its ports and drives from being damaged when your are hauling the tablet around in a bag.

Finally, there’s the beauty of the cases. Twelve South puts quality into all of their products, and the BookBook is their showstopper. Made with artisan leather, this case has been crafted with a technique for laying multiple layers of color to create the beautiful antique look that the BookBook boasts. Because of this method no two BookBook cases look the same.

While the BookBook Vol 2will set you back a pretty penny at $89, it’s worth every one of those pennies.
