Sorry, but I still think the MacBook Air is a goner

Bloomberg is reporting that Apple plans to unveil three new laptops at next month’s Worldwide Developer Conference: updated MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs and 12-inch MacBooks. The Sellers Research Firm (that’s me) disagrees with that prediction.

I do think we’ll see new 12-inch MacBooks introduced along with new iPad Pros (hmmm, how will Apple differentiate the laptop and the “laptop replacement”?).

And I think Apple will preview new MacBook Pros along with new iMacs. However, I don’t think either of those systems will go on sale until September or October, when macOS 11 is released.

However, I still think, as I’ve said before, that the MacBook Air is a goner. I don’t see a place in the line-up for both it and the plainly named MacBook. To me, having all three Mac laptops only confuses things.

Bloomberg says that the MacBook Air is a “surprisingly strong” seller, so I could be wrong. We’ll find out on Monday, June 5, when the WWDC keynote hits.
