Second Apple patent involves an AirPods wireless charging case

Apple has been granted a second patent (number 20170347182) for the upcoming AirPod case that will work with its AirPod charging system, due in early 2018.

It’s rumored that Apple will sell the new AirPod case separately for $69 by the end of 2017. The AirPower is an Apple-designed wireless charging accessory coming in 2018, which offers a generous active charging area that will allow iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X customers to simultaneously charge up to three devices, including Apple Watch Series 3 and the new (optional) wireless charging case for AirPods. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but it’s expected to cost about $200.

The patent involves a case for a portable listening device (AirPods) that includes a rechargeable battery and a first and a second charging system. The first charging system is configured to charge the portable listening device and the second charging system is configured to wirelessly charge a portable electronic device positioned outside of the case adjacent to an exterior charging surface
