Rumor: the 2018 iPad Pro will sport Face ID, a new Apple Pencil

Apple is working on a redesigned, “high-end iPad” (which, I assume, means an iPad Pro) for 2018 that incorporates iPhone X features such as slimmer edges and Face I.D., reports Bloomberg, quoting unnamed “people familiar with the matter.”

However, the revamped iPads won’t pack an OLED screen as the iPhone X does, the article ads. Bloomberg says the 2018 iPad’s Face ID feature will replace the iPad home button, which will allow Apple to reduce the size of the edges on the top and bottom of the tablet for the first time since its introduction in 2010.

The new iPad is expected to include — as you would expect — a faster processor and a custom Apple graphics processing unit. The tech giant is also preparing a new version of its Apple Pencil stylus and new software tools for using the stylus, adds Bloomberg.

Chances this rumor is true (IMHO): 100%. Everything about the rumor rings true, and I suspect Bloomberg is right on the money. As for the second gen Apple Pencil, look for it to have a new magnetic system that will allow it to temporarily attach to an iPad. his would allow users to place the Apple Pencil on the iPad securely when not in use, allowing it to attach magnetically just like the iPad Smart Cover.
