Rumor: Samsung may supply OLED screens for 16-inch MacBook Pro, iPad Pros

Samsung is talking with Apple about supplying OLED displays for a 16-inch MacBook Pro and future iPad Pro models, according to Korean site The Elec as noted and translated by MacRumors.

The former has been predicted by noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He first forecast a 16-inch (perhaps 17-inch) Mac laptop for this year, but has since moved his projection to 2021. Which makes sense as Apple surprised everyone with a 15-inch MacBook Pro update this week.

An updated iPad Pro is almost certainly coming in later summer or fall. However, the Sellers Research Group (that’s me) says there’s less than a 50/50 chance that it will move to an OLED screen. OLED displays offer some advantages over the liquid crystal display (LCD) technology used in the current tablets, but are pricier and could be tricker to make work with Apple’s high refresh rate.
