Rumor: new iPads won’t arrive until the second half of 2017; I say they’ll arrive in March

Citing unnamed sources from the “upstream supply chain,” DigiTimes says that new iPads won’t arrive in March as anticipated, but have bene pushed back until the second half of the year because the internals of the tablets are “still in the planning phases.”

The article says that Apple is considering having a 10.5-inch iPad replace the existing 9.7-inch product line and will let the new 9.7-inch iPad become an entry-level device, mainly targeting the education sector. I think DigiTimes is correct about this, but I think we’ll see a trio of new Apple tablets (along with a new iMac) in March.

My crystal ball tells me that Apple will introduce a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro model along with a revised a 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2 and a “low-cost” 9.7-inch iPad model with the 7.9-inch iPad mini being discontinued. All will AMOLED displays and incorporate the TrueTone tech introduced in the first gen 9.7-inch iPad Pro. What’s more, I think the rumored Apple Pencil 2 will arrive with the revamped tablet line-up.
