Rumor: iPhone 13 to have always-on display with 120Hz ProMotion, more

The iPhone 13 lineup (which some rumors say will be dubbed the “iPhone 12S, though I don’t agree) will include an always-on ProMotion display with a 120Hz refresh rate, improved camera capabilities for astrophotography, stronger MagSafe magnets, and a finer matte finish on the back, according to leaker Max Weinbach (via YouTube channel EverythingApplePro).

Always On Display (AOD) is a smartphone feature that shows limited information while the phone is asleep. According to Apple, ProMotion “delivers refresh rates of up to 120Hz for fluid scrolling, greater responsiveness and smoother motion content” and “improves display quality and reduces power consumption by automatically adjusting the display refresh rate to match the movement of the content.

120Hz refreshes four times faster than 30Hz and two times quicker than 60Hz, producing smoother motion and transitions. Faster update times also mean lower latency, because the pixels are being refreshed more often.

According to Apple, MagSafe “improves wireless charging for a better, more efficient experience, and introduces an ecosystem of easy-to-attach accessories that beautifully complement iPhone 12 models.” It features an array of magnets around the wireless charging coil that connect to an iPhone every time.
