Rumor: Apple to hold special event on March 23

According to Apple info leaker “Kang” will hold a special event — it’s first of the year — on Tuesday, March 23, according to DuanRui. The event — which will doubtless be virtual — should see the launch of new iPads, the long-awaited AirPods, and, less likely, new iMacs.

The upcoming iPad Pro is expected to sport the same overall design but be slightly thicker to accommodate a mini-LED display. (Some rumors say it will have an OLED display, but my money’s on mini-LED.) It may also be 5G-enabled with mmWave support.

The 2021 iPad mini is also expected to sport a mini-LED display, as well as (of course) a speed bump.

AirTags, which were expected last year, are a (rumored) Tile competitor that you could attach to an item (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV remote, car keys, etc.) and track it if it’s misplaced or lost. There are several similar products on the market, such as Tile and Adero, but Apple’s version will purportedly be more deeply integrated with its own devices.

As for new iMacs, see my report here.
