Rumor: Apple plans to launch an online store in India in September

Next month Apple will launch an online store in India, reports Bloomberg, quoting an “unnamed person with knowledge of the matter.”

The online store will be ready for operations just ahead of the festive Dussehra-Diwali spending season, the article adds. Apple had lobbied New Delhi for years to get around regulations that force companies such as itself to source 30% of components locally. The tech giant had originally planned to start online sales within months after the government relaxed the rule last year.

Those plans were disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. Plus, getting a foothold in India has been a challenge for Apple.
